The HONPDSDR with exclusive SDR™ technology directly connects your iPod® or iPhone™ digital mobile device to your motorcycle's factory audio system. It provides full control of your iPod/iPhone through your factory radio or navigation in all 2001-2010 Honda Gold Wing motorcycles. The exclusive SDR mode allows control directly from your iPod and from the radio/handle bar controls for the ultimate iPod experience. The HONPDSDR allows unlimited playlists and unlimited songs per playlist. It safely charges all current iPod and iPhone devices.
All the other units we’ve seen are car units that happen to kind of work on the Gold Wing.
The Uniq Technology part uses the IE Bus OEM chip just like the original Honda factory CD changer and radio so it connects to the Goldwings audio system using the factory wiring harness just like the CD player does.
The Uniq Technology part is Made for iPod and Works With iPhone, Itouch and iPod, it is Apple certified and is the only one on the market that truly is. Uniq tell us that “alot of other interfaces claim to be made for ipod but they do not use the required Apple security chip and that’s why they have problems like locking up and other malfunctions”.
Apple is working to put a stop to this false advertising with the release of their next gen of product.

Heres a few comments about installation –
Installing the HONPDSDR is as easy as fitting the factory Honda CD player. Its not something anyone could do but it isn’t too difficult IF you are a good DIYer. Its an easy ‘plug&play’ installation of the wiring harness but if you decide to mount the actual unit in the trunkwell you may need to adjust the position of the wiring loom and you will need to cut an access hole in the trunk, just like when fitting the Honda CD player.
The supplied instructions for connection don't say where the HONPDSDR should be mounted. I tried to fix it under the seat but on my bike there isnt enough room and it kept hitting the bottom of the seat.
I decided to fit the unit in the trunk well, where the OEM CD player usually sits.
I eventually managed to do this but it wasn't straight forward. Because of the satnav harness, the passenger audio harness and the CB harness, I had to heat-up and reroute some of the bikes original wiring harness. The harness that connects the HONPDSDR to the OEM multi pin connector, which is located behind the relay box, isnt quite long enough. It would be easier if it was another 6" (15cm) longer.
The next thing I had to decide was - where to mount the ipod? I have 2 ipods, a classic and an I-touch and both work fine with the HONPDSDR unit.
I didn't want it sliding around in the trunk so I decide to mount it On the trunk lid.
It doesn't foul on the helmets and its in an easy access position. I have a small mount made for the ipod to fix in a car and I adapted that.
All works fine.
The control buttons on the airbag model are set out different to all the other models. The instructions show the Non-airbag audio unit controls and don't mention the airbag model.
No big problem, the button numbers work as they do on the non-airbag model but the 1/2 and 3/4 5/6 buttons arent on the same rocker switch.
On the airbag model the rockers are 1/4 2/5 3/6.
All is working well at the moment and after speaking with Joe at Uniq, I’ve no reason to expect it wont continue to work as it should BUT….
I’ll let you know if I experience any problems with it in the future.
