Garmin Mac Blog:
Listen up, Apple fans! We’ve just made organizing your waypoints, viewing map data, and saving your favorite map locations even easier on your Mac. Introducing RoadTrip – our newest resource for managing your map and waypoint information. With RoadTrip, you can create, view, and edit routes and also transfer saved waypoints, routes, and tracks between your GPS device and your computer. This is especially helpful if you’re recently purchased a newer Garmin unit but still have data saved in an older device.

We've been using motorcycle mounted GPS units since 2002.

We started off with the Garmin StreetPilot 111 and we now use mainly 2610, 2820 and the Zumo range.
All these units are supplied with Garmin Mapsource software which allows the user to preplan routes on your PC before downloading them to the actual unit.

The current Goldwing GL1800 model is available with a built in GPS system.

We are able to add European mapping to US bikes and update UK supplied bikes, which have Version8 mapping, to the very latest detailed mapping i.e. Version V2009 (V11).

If you have any questions about GPS systems please don't hesitate to contact us and we'll try to help.

660

The picture to the left shows a Garmin Zumo660 fitted to one of our mounts which sits neatly over the clutch reservoir. This type of mount is also suitable for the 2610's, 2720's, 2820's and Garmin Zumo 500 & 550's.
The interphase unit which delivers the GPS audio into the Goldwings intercom system is fitted under the lefthand glove pocket and is also available with full hear & speak facility to a suitable Bluetooth phone.
The audio and power cables route from the lefthand glove box across to the steering head and up the inside of the left hand handlebar.
The pictures below show Garmin 660 and 2610 units with Touratech locking brackets and standard Garmin brackets fitted above the clutch reservoir.
This mounting position gives a good clear view ahead and leaves the left hand mirror clearly visible while making it easy to view the GPS screen when necessary. We use it on most GPS installations.

Garmin on the Apple Mac
I have successfully got my Garmin maps onto my Mac.
You will need the following software from the Garmin site to get it working. http://www8.garmin.com/macosx/index.jsp

RoadTrip for Mac software version 2.0.1
RoadTrip allows you to transfer waypoints, tracks, and routes between your Mac and Garmin device and manage your data using your Garmin maps.
RoadTrip provides the ability to search for points of interest from the convenience of your Mac and then send the locations to your Garmin GPS.
MapManager copies maps and unlock codes into the right place to be accessible by RoadTrip and MapInstall. To migrate the maps from your Windows PC, download MapConverter onto your PC and follow the instructions.
Download and install MapConverter for Windows to convert your unlocked PC maps for use on your Mac.

System Requirements:
Recommended:
Intel-based Mac
OS 10.5 or later
1 GB RAM
USB port

The procedure is very simple but a bit time consuming you must have an unlocked version of map-source with mapping running on your pc you download from Garmin to your pc MapConvertor http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3897 once downloaded run to convert your maps to work on your Mac (please note this makes a copy and will not change your current PC maps) if you have done it correct you will get a ziped file for every map version you convert (if your full version is V8 and your V9 version is an update convert both) this way the Mac software will get the full version.

Once the MapConverter has completed this task it will open a path to your converted files now you need to get these files over to your Mac they are over 2gb for every version you convert so you will need to have a DVD burner, flash drive, USB drive or have the Mac and PC networked, once you have done this you are finished with the PC.

Now on your Mac download and instal RoadTrip http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4332 this includes MapManager once you have done this copy over the converted maps to your desk top and double click them this will uncompress them and save a full open version on your desktop that MapManager can read (if you have more than one version to convert then do the same with the other versions) now double click the full open uncompressed maps and this will launch MapManager you will now get an install window press install do this for every version you converted (once done you can bin the maps on the desktop) however I kept a copy of the uncompressed ones just incase I need to load them up aging at any time.

Now launch RoadTrip once open you can pick your map version from the window in the top right of the application I must say it works great and is nice and fast on my G5 iMac 3.06Ghz and it is a much better graphic interface than the Windows version.

Attached is the how to Garmin PDF. also you can download MapInstall so you can load your map sets onto your GPS unit I found this to be faster then doing it with mapsource.
